Dordrecht during world war two

A collection of historical items from World War II in Dordrecht.

The propaganda film "Sprung in den Feind" (Leap into the Enemy).

The German paratroopers were often portrayed as glorious conquerors and elite units in Nazi Germany. A prime example of this is the German propaganda film "Sprung in den Feind," which translates to "Leap into the Enemy." Although the original operation to capture the Moerdijk bridges did not go flawlessly, historically speaking, it can be considered a success from the German side. The paratroopers managed to capture and hold the bridges until the armored units arrived to relieve them. The German propaganda machine eagerly capitalized on this success and exaggerated it. The photos you see below were taken during the filming of that propaganda film. Many of these photos were sold as souvenirs, allowing German soldiers to buy them for their own photo albums.

The film is not in the possession of Dordrecht during the war. We do not own the rights to this film. The film is only embedded on the website. You can find this film on YouTube, by the way.

Below you will find original photographic material from the recording:
"Andere Tijden" made a documentary about it, which you can find here
