Dordt Open City 2008
In May 2008, the event Dordt Open City was organized. An event that focused on reenacting and depicting the beginning of the war in Dordrecht. In May 1940, German paratroopers landed everywhere in and around Dordrecht. Dutch troops engaged in combat with these troops. The photos on this page show the volunteers who depict that in May 2008.
During this event, various events were reenacted. You see them here in the photo. The first is the landing of German paratroopers (the 3rd company of the Parachute Regiment 1 [ 3./FJR 1 ]) in the Polder. The contemporary Weizigtpark. A second event shows the German paratroopers advancing over the Dubbeldamse Weg. Finally, you see the dressing station at the Oranjepark where both German and Dutch wounded were cared for by a mixed team of caregivers.
